PHASE WARPING

You've heard me mention this a few times throughout my page, and you're probably wondering what the heck it is. Phase Warping is basically just the use of the select trick to warp straight from one ruin to another, without having to mess with the acid or go all of the way through the main part of the game just to get there.
Doing so will dramatically decrease the time it takes you to beat the game. It will also allow you to get power-ups way before their time. But in other words, this is called cheating. So it will not be official if you get a rediculously low time due to this trick... I recommend NOT bragging about a low time unless you tell that this was done to get it. But if you're like me, who cares? :)

Now, here's how to do it. From the very start of the game, play it as you normally would by killing the Metroid and advancing to the first ruin. Get all of your power-ups and kill all of the Metroids there as you normally would. Now we get to the cool stuff...

Go outside of the ruin to the right (east) wall. Using the Spider Ball, go up the right wall to the top, and let yourself fall as a ball. While falling, perform the select trick. It will take you several tries, but you should eventually be able to open up a hole. When you see the hole in the wall, turn into a Spider Ball to stop your fall before you lose the hole. The proceed upward and advance through the hole.

After you go through the hole, you'll fall into a large empty area with the textured background. You'll fall for a few screens. Dont move back and forth! Just fall straight down or you'll get stuck!

You'll end up in the passage in the ceiling above the second ruin of the game. Just move around in the passage until you can bomb your way out, and then let yourself fall down to the main entrance to the ruin. Collect all of the power-ups and kill all of the Metroids, then repeat the Select Trick on the right (east) side of this ruin again. There are two walls that face east, so just choose the tall one. It's a hard task on this wall because of those darned Senjoos moving around, and because of the spikes. Just Spider Ball up this wall as far as you can go, then repeat the same select trick that you did on the first ruin until you can end up in the passage above the third ruin.

At the third ruin, get all the power-ups and kill all the Metroids there, as you did before. Unfourtunately, this is far as you can warp. Doing the Select Trick on the right side of this ruin just puts you in the passage in the celing above the first ruin. If you missed something in the previous two ruins, then go for it. Otherwise, if you got every item and killed every single Metroid, then you can go ahead and proceed to the fourth ruin and play the game as you normally would from thereon.

What good is "Phase Warping" you ask? The advantages of this trick include saving yourself a ton of time because you're skipping right past the main caverns of the game that normally would lead you to the next ruin. Doing this also allows you to totally avoid the acid so that you don't "accidentaly" slip in and lose some of your strength.
